In the Ted Talk How language shapes the way we think by Lera Boroditsky. She talks about how different cultures’ dialect is different when it comes to communicating. The example that she gave was the Australian aboriginals who use cardinal directions instead of the convention that most people use which is up, down, left and right. For example that she used was instead of say that the cup is on your right, you say that the cup is east of you. This is very interesting since shows how a different cultures thinks and perceive the world around us. The thing that caught my ear was when she compared how English and Spanish speakers would described an event. In the video there was a picture of man bending over to take a picture of an artifact and in the process he accidentally broke the vase. In English the event would be described as “the man broke the vase” in Spanish it would be “the vase broke” To me this seems as miscommunication, a pice of information was left out. This got me think has the an event that took place in human history that was lost in translation. Stories and legends that we were told as children be had been different to what really happened. Is this why some history books are different to others. Could this be a reason for a war to start  just because a pice of information was lost in translation
