About myself
I learned so many new things about myself that I don’t think I would’ve learned if I didn’t take this course, those of which includes that I’m able to talk about emotions. This was gained through playing the board games at the beginning of the semester in different groups, and I remember a specific board game that we played that really helped me discover more about myself, which was when we would remember specific moments when we were feeling a certain emotion. Usually, this is a very challenging task for me, since I’m not the kind of person who would talk about emotions, so playing this game really helped me. Also, I learned that I’m able to freely express myself with those that I don’t know, which is what I gained from interacting with people from our class.
That I will use in my academic life
There are so many new skills that I gained from this course, such as Google Gemini and that it can help us create a game. From that only, I was able to learn new AI skills and apply it to how I use it. Also, I really liked when you asked us if we used AI in an assignment and if we did how we used it; since I got to learn how others use AI effectively and I gained so many different ways where I can use it. Also, learning about the CC rights and rules was very helpful, since I’m now able to apply it to my family business.
That I will use in my social life:
I was able to gain so many social skills since we were able to interact each class and share our thoughts and perspectives. Even in times where people can have controversial views, we always knew to be respectful. Also, writing on the blogpost helped me become more exposed since it was almost like public speaking, since everyone can see what we write and express ourselves. So, it was helpful in gaining confidence on the personal things that we share.
That I will use in my career:
This course will definitely play an important role in shaping my future career in architecture, since it helped me develop both technical and human skills. It was very beneficial that we learned about AI since it expanded my understanding in how technology can be used in the design process, such as the research and concept development phase. Also, the course helped me gain more social and communication skills, which made me able to express my ideas clearly, listen to different perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue. These skills are actually very important in architecture, especially in projects that depend on collaboration with clients, communities, and professionals from various backgrounds.
If I were to show someone my learning in this course
- Midcourse reflection: I would choose to show others my midcourse reflection since it perfectly shows everything that I’ve learned and clearly shows my growth, understanding, and engagement throughout the course. Additionally, it shows how I learned to become more self-aware and the ability to evaluate my own progress, which is so important for this course and even in my academic life.
- ALTCV: I would definitely want others to see my ALTCV, since it encouraged me to look at myself as more than a student defined by my major. It made me reflect on how my personal interests, skills, and life experiences influence my creative process. Showing others this assignment would demonstrate my growth in understanding myself as a whole person, not just through academically but through what I care about and enjoy.
- Final Game Reflection: This assignment shows all of the skills that I’ve learned throughout the course. I also found it amazing how we were able to come up with one personal topic and transform it into a game that is creative and unique. Also, the most important part was reflecting on what we gained/learned throughout the process of creating the game.
If I could change 2-3 things about the course to improve it
- Minute Papers: I feel like the minute papers were so rushed since I wasn’t able to reflect after each class deeply, so I think a better idea would be to write freely after 2-3 classes. Also, perhaps changing the questions every reflection would be more motivating.
- Soliya/GCC: It was quite challenging in attending each Soliya session, especially because it was outside of class, also the sessions themselves were very awkward, maybe because it was online. So I think it would’ve been better if we focused more on GCC rather than on Soliya. Especially, because the GCC was so helpful and I would’ve wanted to continue meeting rather than on Slack.
- Assignments: I think it would’ve been better if we had less assignments, but with greater weight, simply because of the clash I had with the other courses that I’m taking.
What kind of person should take this course?
- Those who are still figuring out life and themselves, and would want to become more confident socially and in learning different experiences, as well as interacting with others on different experiences.
Tools Learned:
- Blog Post Website: I found out about this website from our course, which was very helpful and different. I actually suggested to my Dr in another core class to use it. It was also useful since we’re able to see other people’s work.
- Google Scholar: I actually didn’t know about this website, it was so convenient in finding good research websites, especially when trying to find out if a website was fake (the fake news activity that we did in class)
- Google Gemini: This website was so helpful in creating code for my game, and even was helpful in other things related.
- Website used in Annotating Lina Mounzer: This website was much more useful than copying the entire article and then writing comments. I think it was a great tool, and I even used it in other architecture assignments.
- Multiple Projectors/Whiteboards: Having several whiteboards with projectors was so beneficial, especially in group work since when divided into smaller groups, we can present our work on the board. Also, it was helpful when there were different activities/questions for each board.
GCC
I really liked being part of the GCC because I was able to interact with people from the US that are in Kenyon University. Also, I became more exposed to different cultures and backgrounds, which was very helpful since I got to learn more on how to interact with others from different backgrounds. Additionally, I enjoyed our first meeting since we were able to interact with one of the students and share our identity; it was a good idea that we were divided into groups/breakout rooms. I actually think that it would’ve been better if we continued interacting through meeting on Zoom, rather than continuing on Slack. Lastly, it was very beneficial that we learned about different types of tourism, and was actually interesting when we tried to apply the type of tourist we think we are.
