Game final reflection:
The Mom Appreciation game is a Google Slides-based interactive experience designed to highlight the everyday sacrifices and love that mothers give. The game features scenarios where players make decisions reflecting the importance of a mother or a mother-like figure in the stages of life.
Modifications based on Feedback:
After sharing the initial idea of the game, my instructor suggested that I speak with individuals who had lost their mothers. Additionally, Dr. Maha advised me not to base the game on the mother’s death but to keep the mother alive and design the game accordingly. Taking her advice into consideration, I reached out to an old friend, but discussing such a sensitive topic was challenging. I continued working on my draft while incorporating the rest of the feedback. Initially, I created three scenarios highlighting a mother’s importance throughout a typical day and presented them to my instructor. However, she wasn’t satisfied and again recommended talking to someone who had lost their mother. Since I couldn’t find anyone willing to share their experience, I turned to my mom. Our conversation started with her reminiscing about old memories, then led to tears as she recalled losing her mother to cancer. Despite the emotional difficulty, I gathered insights and decided to design the game around the stages of life rather than a single-day experience. During this time, I was traveling and couldn’t obtain peer reviews for the game. However, Dr. Maha provided a last-minute review and helped me make some final edits.
What I would have done differently:
- I would have reached out to more individuals who lost their mothers to gain a deeper understanding of the situation and add more depth to the game.
- I would have explored advanced design tools to make the game visually engaging and interactive.
- I would have created more storylines or alternative endings to offer players a richer narrative experience
What I learned while making this game:
- I learned that discussing a mother’s death is a highly sensitive topic that requires empathy, courage, and carefully chosen words.
- I realized that I perform better under pressure than when I have enough time for any assignment.
- Crafting the game taught me that Google Slide is not just for presentations but can also be a powerful tool for creating interactive content.
