Welcome back to my blog! – In this post, I will share two powerful quotes from Taiye Selasi’s TED Talk that made me think differently about identity and belonging. I’ll also explain why these quotes stood out to me and how they changed my perspective.

There were two sentences that stood out to me because they made me think differently about identity.

The first one

“You can take away my passport, but you can’t take away my experience,” showed me that where we belong isn’t just about nationality. Our memories, the places we’ve lived, and the people we know stay with us no matter what.

The second one

“What if we asked, instead of ‘Where are you from?’ — ‘Where are you a local?’” it made me realize that asking where someone is from doesn’t really tell us who they are. It’s our daily life, the places we feel at home, and the people around us that truly shape us.

To conclude, Taiye Selasi’s talk made me rethink what it really means to belong. Instead of focusing on countries, we should look at the places, people, and experiences that shape us.

See you soon!
