Unsent Messages is a choice-based narrative game about one day in the life of a university student. During the day, the player gets different messages from friends, family, teachers, and someone they care about. In each situation, the player has to decide how to respond, and each choice changes the mood of the day and the relationships around them.
The main idea of the game is communication and how small moments can turn into bigger emotional situations. I wanted the game to focus on hesitation, misunderstanding, and the pressure of replying, especially when you are already overwhelmed. The choices are not meant to feel clearly right or wrong, because in real life people usually do not know the perfect response.
One of the games that inspired me was Depression Quest. What I liked about it was the way the story moved through the flow of a full day and how the emotional pressure kept building from one moment to the next. That made me want to build my game in a similar way, where the situations feel connected instead of random.
I also wanted the choices in my game to feel less obvious. I did not want there to be one safe option that is clearly the best one every time. Instead, I wanted the results to feel a little uncertain or uncomfortable, because that felt more realistic to me.
