A Digital Narrative Game Challenging Misconceptions

In this interactive narrative game, players step into the shoes of Layla, a young Muslim navigating everyday life in a country where Islam is often misunderstood. Through a series of decisions—some small, some deeply personal—players experience the subtle and overt challenges faced by visibly Muslim individuals in Western societies.

This game doesn’t aim to preach or shock. Instead, it invites players to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes—to feel the tension of being stared at, the hesitation before speaking up, and the inner strength it takes to stay true to your identity when the world doesn’t always welcome it.

The goal is not just to play the story, but to feel it: the weight of daily microaggressions, the constant calculations around safety and belonging, and the quiet resistance of showing up as yourself.

I created this game to challenge harmful stereotypes and open up space for empathy and understanding. It’s a reminder that behind the headlines and assumptions are real people—living, feeling, struggling, and thriving.
