I attended the somatic healing seminar after missing the theatre play. Disappointed because I don’t like online classes to be immersive enough and I have trouble concentrating in them, I didn’t expect much. However, as I found myself engaging with the breathing exercises, I began to relax, which for me is optimal for learning. I tend to learn better when someone makes me comfortable around them. Then began something that I experienced for the first time. I can’t remember what it’s called, maybe the quiet room, but basically, we were 4 people in a separate room sharing experiences, and we landed on the situation where you get cut off in traffic. I, as a person, tend to keep a cool head most of the time and don’t really care when something like this happens; I just crank up the music and ignore it. But someone said how a small interaction with someone you know nothing about suddenly turns them from an insignificant person to someone who bothers your day, which got me thinking deeply. It was such an interesting perspective that it made me question some interactions in my life. It’s like I’ve unlocked a new skill. I think from now on I’ll be analyzing the way I interact with strangers a bit differently.
Edit: I wrote this right after the session so I wouldn’t forget as much as possible and to refine it before submission. During those few days, I’ve discovered that I’m not really a calm person during traffic jams.
I mean, I try to be calm in general. I think it’s something I try rather than something I am. I like to handle stuff with a light heart. I don’t know; I really thought that I’m a calm person, but maybe I’m just pretentious. I’m easily frustrated. I don’t get angry, but I get annoyed. It’s called being human, I guess.
