Somatic healing
In Doctor Luciana’s session, I gained a clear understanding of the difference between hypo arousal and hyper arousal, and how both are survival responses of the nervous system. Hyper arousal is a high energy state that can feel like anxiety, panic racing thoughts, or overwhelm. In contrast, hypo arousal is a low energy state that feels like numbness, disconnection, exhaustion or being frozen. I realized that I sometimes experience high arousal when I feel stuck or unable to complete a task, even though I want to. Understanding that this is a nervous system response rather than laziness helped me feel more compassionate toward myself.

We also explored how sensory inputs can help regulate these states. Gentle and repetitive movements like how swings and rocking chairs are relaxing can calm the body by creating rhythm and safety. Similarly, gentle texture and touching soft things is relaxing because soft physical sensations signal comfort to the nervous system. These small tools can make a noticeable difference.

One important Takeaway was that the more we practiced embodiment and regulation skills, the more aware we become subtle shifts in our body when we enter survival mode. Recognizing whether I’m in hyper arousal or hypo arousal allows me to respond intentionally instead of reacting automatically. Overall, this session helped me understand my stress response better and gave me practical ways to support my body. Like the breathing method and sporting 5 blue things when in panic mode for example. Also, the ear pulling seems more relaxing than I expected.
