Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog.
Today, I’m going to reflect on two talks: I’m Muslim, But I’m Not by BuzzFeed, and The Danger of a Single Story by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
“I’m Muslim, But I’m Not” Reflection
This video features Muslims talking about common stereotypes they face. It made me think about the assumptions people make about me too.
- Everyone in My Family is a Doctor, So I Must Be One Too
My whole family works in the medical field, so people assume I’ll become a doctor too. When I tell them I’m studying finance, they’re surprised or ask why I didn’t choose medicine. But I have different interests. Finance is what I love, and that’s the path I’m taking. - I’m Sarcastic, So I Can’t Be Serious
Since I joke around a lot, people sometimes think I don’t take things seriously. But that’s not true. I know when to have fun and when to focus. Just because I like making people laugh doesn’t mean I don’t care about important things or work hard for my goals.

“The Danger of a Single Story” Reflection
In this TED Talk, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explains how dangerous it is to see people through just one lens. This made me think about how I used to see public school students in Egypt.
I used to believe they weren’t as ambitious as private school students. But after meeting and working with some of them, I realized how wrong that was. Many of them work incredibly hard and face challenges I never even thought about. They are just as driven as anyone else. This experience showed me how dangerous it is to judge people without really knowing them.
