How My Game Changed: From Fiction to Real Life
When I first began this project, I went in a completely different direction. My initial draft was a fictional piece about a boy in the UK who lost both of his parents. It was dramatic, but in sharing it with my peers and getting feedback, I realized that it didn‘t necessarily sound like me or pertain to my own life. The feedback that I got was simple: write something more personal, something that has to do with my real life
In my first draft, I wrote this fictional character and his conflict. But after the critique, to the drawing board I returned. I decided to draw from my life-my four years living in Kuwait, dealing with anxiety, and facing bullies. While the tale of the last game is not a direct retelling of my life, it‘s rooted in real feelings and situations that I‘ve experienced. This transformation rendered the tale more authentic and understandable, both for me and anyone else who may be playing the game.
If I had more time, and I mean significantly more time I would have created a real game code. I could have used matlab to create a game that has characters and animations.
One thing that I have learned that I should write what I know. If tend to fantasie and write about things that I have no idea about then it might not work or resonate with the reader
