I took two tests from the implicit Harvard tests the first one was the Arab Muslim IAT and the second one was their race black and white IAT, each test showed pictures of different races and cultures and I was asked to place them in whichever situation I found was most suitable to start with the arab muslim one, I was given a list of Arab names combined with a list of western names and ancient names and I was asked to place the Arab names under which were good and bad and based on the name I would choose if I believed that this name was good or bad in terms of my cognitive beliefs. The aim of this test was to show if I had any cognitive biases that were hidden within my mind which were shown through the results. For the Arab Muslim test I showed little to no automatic preference between Arab Muslims and other people which is something I can relate to where I do not differ between races and prefer one race over the other however there was a slight automatic preference for other people compared to Arab Muslims which is completely against what I had previously believed in I used to believe that I would automatically have an automatic preference towards Arab Muslims but after taking this test it seems like I do not. this is very abnormal to me since whenever I travel I always aim to find people that are like me and I would slightly prefer them over the locals of the country I am visiting since I feel like home and I am more comfortable in that way. As for the race test was provided with faces of black Americans and white Americans to which I would label them under good or bad and eventually after finishing that first step I would be provided with images of harmful objects and safe objects and I would have to automatically in a second place the face of either a black American or a white American under the topic of harmful objects or safe objects which would eventually show me if I have any hidden cognitive biases towards one race or the other. ask for the results ironically there was not a very huge automatic preference between both races however there was still more of a slight automatic preference for black Americans being placed under the harmful objects in comparison to other people which are white Americans. this is the show that even if someone has made-up their own personal beliefs on a matter they might still have certain cognitive beliefs that are implemented in their head through different experiences and different reasonings which makes them have previously inherited schemas on certain people even if they don’t recall it. the results of the race test especially saddened me because I had always felt much more comfortable when I am around black Americans in comparison to white Americans the reason for that is I believe that black Americans are much closer to my race which is the Egyptian race or the Arab race or the Muslim race given that the black Americans and the blacks in general have been oppressed all throughout history through various different societies and I believe that the Arabs and the Egyptians can wholeheartedly relate to that therefore making me feel some sort of sympathy towards them but it is honestly a very sad thing to realize that no matter how hard someone might believe in something due to the media and the situations that they are put in they might still have some hidden biases towards the subject; which is why I do believe in the validity of this test since it focuses on hidden biases and its approach is very effective. it is very effective since it requires you to answer quickly without second thinking anything which is an efficient way to discover something about someone.
