- I was able to make it through the whole month with $323 (But Rent’s Due Tomorrow). This game alone was very stressful since I had to make so many life-changing decisions with limited money, so i can’t imagine how stressful it’s actually like in real life. Especially the fact that there’s a child that doesn’t deserve all of this and should be able to have a normal childhood. This is why I tried to be very fair with the child, like making them go on trips, get ice cream with a friend, go to a birthday party and buy a gift. Even though the money spent on the child could have been spent on things to improve the living situation for both of them, I tried to put myself in the child’s shoes and imagine how sad I would be if I wasn’t able to live my childhood. Overall, this game is very eye-opening; it reminded me that Spent is what so many people are going through now, and the idea of how so many people have to sacrifice their basic needs (such as food, water, shelter) to be able to look after their child, etc. Therefore, we always have to be grateful for the things we have and be kind & generous with everyone.
- Suggestion: I think it would be better if I had background information on the person I’m supposed to be in the game, rather than choosing options rightaway.
- I played this game so many times since I always ended up stranded or left with no money, up until where I was finally able to travel with the family safely to Greece as a refugee. Evidently, the idea of me having to repeat the game various times and each time taking different decisions, until reaching the successful decision the 9th time or something, shows how it’s so challenging and stressful it is in real life. So I really empathize with them, since they have to consider so many decisions that can either negatively or positively impact their life.
- Suggestion: Add more options instead of giving 50-50 chances.
- This game made me relive the covid days all over again. Even though I was in school when covid happened, this game showed me how my life could’ve been like if I was in university at the time. Honestly, the main negative that I realized in the game is how the person quickly started going down the route of depression, through taking anti-depressants, etc. This made me take into consideration that being in university at the time of covid can really make people suffer from depression more than people who are in school, due to being more alone and unfamiliar with the system of the university life.
- Suggestion: I didn’t really feel that this was a game, since there were limited times where I got to choose options. (Mostly stating facts)
- This game was very easy to navigate and user-friendly. I chose to try to be in the “single mom” situation. Even though I scored 10/14, it was quite challenging since I had to give up on various hours of interacting with friends, such as Skype with a friend in Canada, in order to be able to get a good amount of sleep, and then ending up getting woken up by my daughter who is sick. This showed me how no one fully gets everything they want and how single moms really do go through a challenging and hard time.
- This game was so informative on so many different levels. I loved how there were so many detailed scenarios with its own visuals. As well as how Jana made sure to state the right thing to do. This game honestly raises awareness on the topic of Domestic Violence, which is a rarely spoken topic in Egypt, in the best way possible.
6. Peer Destruction (on body shaming)
- This game was quite eye-opening, since it shows how this can be someone’s day-to-day life. However, what was even more sad is the amount of negative comments an under/overweight girl gets from their own mother, which I believe it’s something that several people go through. It was honestly very shocking to me how mothers can have the ability to say such comments on their own daughter.
7. When Someone You Love Is Depressed
- I found this game very interesting since it made me really go deep into the character of Noha, as if it’s real life. This game was very interactive and user-friendly. Also, I like how they concluded that you should always support the person you love and never give up on them just because their situation is different from yours.
