This is a short blogpost talking about my experience editing the game I had made. my first post was here https://reflect.creativitycourse.org/published/game-link-omar-ayoub/ but it didn’t include any details about the process I went through to make it! So I can talk about that for a bit.
I had some short experience with programming (due to fiddling with music tech stuff) so I had gotten a recommendation by a friend on how to create my game using AI. The nice thing about it is that I didn’t really need to do a lot of the logic, I just wrote a little script for the story with multiple endings and fed it to it, and told it to make the choice based game with the storylines. It went quite okay I think!
The main issue in the first draft was that it was really verbose. Like actually boring to read. The main feedback I got was that the game was accurate in terms of storyline (I tried my best in terms of that), but it was just too long to read. So, I asked AI to summarize it a bit to around half the length in each narrative. I found it to be much easier to read afterwards. I also removed the hints because they basically told you what the correct option was to win.
I’m a person who likes to learn. I know this is an AI literacies course and I should be using AI to kind of maximize my output a little but I would have liked to learn how to make the game on my own (it just would have taken me a lot of time). The kind of instant gratification I got from just telling AI to make it for me was not something that I particularly think is healthy.
In terms of what I learned, I learned a lot about what sudanese people face. I tried to be extremely considerate and accurate in terms of the story (as much as I can) and in the end I ended up learning a lot about the struggles that they are facing and I can empathize more with them and their cause. They don’t get a lot of media attention as much as other causes. I’m glad I chose this topic. Most of what I learned was through talking to my Sudanese friends and with the lady who comes to clean our house, an a lot of the things I heard were just horrible. I checked the colors against the contrast ratio website and it returned that my colors were accessibility friendly too, which was a good thing :).
Anyways, here is the link for the final game! Hope whoever plays it enjoys, I’ll keep it up on my hosting service that I learned how to use for as long as possible haha
