I don’t know where to begin with this reflection, to be honest, because I am like this in my reflections most of the time. I am unorganized, and I just begin and go with the flow. Due to my ADHD, I can’t focus for a long time, so I try to squeeze my brain to reach the flow state, and then I try my best not to get distracted by anything. Fortunately, this course doesn’t require writing perfection. I mean 100% correct punctuation, grammar, and spelling, for if it did, I would probably get a C. That is actually one of the things I like about this course, which is the reflections; I focus on producing a genuine and honest reflection to express what I feel. This might occasionally take me off topic, but I try my best to avoid it. Therefore, returning to our topic, I will try to be as comprehensive and consecutive as possible in my reflection. I will begin with the first class of the semester, because this was a very strong starting point to the semester. This class was an 8:30 class, which is not my favorite; in fact, it is my biggest enemy. So, I was going to the first class ready to look at the syllabus and calculate which classes I was going to miss and when, but what I did not expect at all was for this class to be the class that I attended the most throughout the whole semester. And that was because of various reasons. First of all, in our first class, I came early, and I met Dr. Maha. She was playing music as she was getting the classroom ready. I talked to her a little bit and told her that I am a huge music admirer and I play 2 instruments. Then my classmates started to enter. I didn’t know anyone in class except for Haya, whom I knew previously, but the rest of them I didn’t know at all. I am not a shy person, so I didn’t feel shy while introducing myself in the icebreakers. My favorite ice-breaking game was when half of the class made a circle, and the other half passed individually on the people of the circle one by one for a couple of minutes. This helped me to remember the details of the person in front of me because they don’t just introduce themselves as anyone else, but we also have a small conversation. The in-class activities, like this one and another one, which was a board game, I don’t really remember its name; in this game, we pulled cards, the cards had questions and specific moods to the questions; it was so good and so specific, and those were questions that I wouldn’t actually ask in a normal conversation. As we progressed throughout the semester, we had activities at the beginning of everyclass where we worked with eachother, and this made us form a type of bond. Actually, my classmates are a huge reason why I really enjoyed the class; they were all respectful, kind, and helpful. I was worried about that 20% participation because I didn’t know how many classes I would miss, and when I do come, will I always be energetic enough at 8:30 in the morning to participate every time? It turned out that I enjoyed the discussions very much and I loved the class so much that I attended almost everyclass, I only missed a couple of classes throughout the whole semester. I think I personally socially developed my communication skills. I wasn’t a shy person in the first place, but I always had a problem with starting the conversation. This is something I gained a lot of experience in during my time in this course this semester. Dealing with my classmates, whom I didn’t know, and talking to foreigners in both GCC and Soliya experiences. I think I also improved academically in presentations and writing. When we write in the blog, we describe photos if there are any, and we actually know how to do presentations for people who are visually or hearing impaired. There is a video that we watched in class that described everything. I found this very useful because it would help me in presentations in other courses too. Not only would it help me in other courses, but it would also help me in any presentation that I would like to do in my life in general. Weather in a project or in my future career. There was also an assignment where we tried. Moreover, when I think about some things that I might share with people, one of the topics that stand out is definitely the Article “How African is North Africa?”. When I first read this article, I thought I related to it very much, because it is something that I have always felt, like throughout my entire life. However, I never did think about it. I don’t relate to Africa at all, but I am in fact African. Sometimes I feel African when Egypt plays in the AFCON. I am very intrigued to show my friends this article and see their reactions as they acknowledge something they felt but can not name. I would also like to show them the concept of bias and othering and the differences between them, because for me, they were the same thing before watching this video called Danger of a Single Story. I didn’t know that there was a concept called othering and that it differs from bias. Othering is judging a certain group of people or having a different point of view on them because of their race, color, or religion. I would also love to hear their insights about voluntourism. Because I personally thought that voluntourism is always considered something great and good, but when you watch this video, you might not stick very much to your opinion. It is not that I now don’t like that idea. It is just knowing that it has more to it than just travelling or volunteer work. Moving on, I really liked the part when we played the digital narrative games; they were so fun and so empathetic. There was also a time when we played an in-class game. We were distributed into groups, and some of us wore blindfolds, others handcuffs, and we tried to build a puzzle. I personally think in-class activities are better than digital games because you literally feel for people. I would then like to talk about some things that I might add to the course that would have made it more interesting for me as a person. I would want us to interact with foreigners in real life rather than just on Zoom. I don’t know the availability of this option, but for me, it is a huge addition. I would also like the AI literacies content to be more, and try more AI tools in class with each other. Another thing is that when we created an ALT-CV, it was really, really fun to do, to list some things that I truly enjoy that may or may not make sense to other people. I was so happy while doing it. What I would like to add to this part is another assignment, in which we create imaginary but achievable ALT-CVs and think about the first step in every accomplishment, what it is. I am saying this because in our age, it is very common to find people who are not driven by a certain goal or people who are lost. Therefore, organizing their dreams and making sense of how to put themselves at the beginning of the mission is going to be highly motivational, in my opinion. The kind of person who should take this course is someone who likes discussions and would like to be better at social skills and situations, and most importantly, to feel comfortable in talking and expressing their opinions. I would really like to take another course in one of those classrooms. The idea of 6 different screens displaying 6 different things was very interesting in this course, and I think it might be useful if used well in future courses. I also liked the blogposting concept. That we share our assignments and this inspires me and gives me a sense of how I am supposed to conduct the assignment and how good it is compared to others. Another thing I am very glad I discovered and used is Preplexity AI, and yes, I didn’t know it before taking this course. It is very smart, and it cites and gives you real links, and the pro version is free if you log in with my university e-mail. So that is definitely something I would use in my student life and in my future career. There is also something that I tried for the first time, which is the breakout rooms in the GCC experience. I will definitely talk more about the GCC experience, but I want to focus on the breakout rooms first. I seriously don’t know why I haven’t used them before. I think it was so fulfilling to analyze what we just witnessed and state our opinions on it on the spot. I really hope I get to use it again in university. And of course, Google Gemini, while creating the gam,e was a real game-changer. I thought it was stupid at first and didn’t understand me. However, once I knew how to prompt things to make it work, it was like magic. I will definitely keep on using that one in brainstorming and future classes. Now I will return to the GCC experience. The GCC experience, though brief, was very exceptional. I didn’t know that there were types of tourism, and to take a class with another group in another university in another country, and get the chance to reflect with them, it was such an experience, specially tham I am someone who liked to talk and share a lot with foreigners, and my group was Aman, he is Tunisian and Zoey and she is an American who’d love to visit Tunisia, it was a very interesting conversation to be in and know how they think of us as tourists. Overall, I really enjoyed this class. I really wish to keep in touch with Dr. Maha and my classmates. I will miss the activities and classes very much. I don’t think I will ever find a class that I will enjoy as much as this one, with the same Dr and, people and experiences. I think we, as students discussing every day and having an impact on the class, made it the most unique section in un iversity. Every single person added their own flavor to the class. For example, it wouldn’t be the same without Ferris and Farah always coming late to class, Shady being serious and sarcastic at the same time, and Ahmed having a controversial point of view. If any of my classmates made it to this part. Thankyou for being a part of this experience. I will miss you all. You too ofcourse Dr. Maha. And I will miss this website.
