Step 1:

As the older daughter, I have taught myself to use anything and everything. Therefore, I was not surprised by the results.

Step 2:

Reflection on the article:

The article “Knowing the Difference Between Digital Skills and Digital Literacies and Teaching Both” highlights the distinction between digital skills and digital literacies in digital education. The article emphasizes that while digital skills are essential for using technology, digital literacies empower learners to engage thoughtfully and responsibly in digital environments. Digital skills are the technical abilities that focus on operating digital tools like laptops or cell phones. It could include skills such as typing, using Excel sheets, searching the web, or installing apps. On the other hand, digital literacies involve the critical and creative use of the digital tool. They include assessing the credibility of a source, interpreting and visualizing data, or understanding digital footprints and copyrights.

In my opinion, both digital literacies and digital skills rely on each other. I could have the skills to use certain technology but might use it ineffectively. For instance, I know how to use Google and AI tools, but without the ability to criticize whether this source is credible or not (digital literacy), then my skill in using the technology will not be effective, and will use incorrect sources.

An area I recognize as needing improvement is my understanding of digital literacies. While I find it relatively easy to navigate and learn how to use digital tools, critically evaluating their effectiveness and reliability needs is more challenging. Therefore, improving skills such as assessing the credibility of online sources, recognizing biases, and using tools thoughtfully would enhance my ability to engage more meaningfully and responsibly in digital environments.

Step 3:

Twisting paths

  • Taught: presentation skills and tools

This entire website has piqued my curiosity with the information and helpful content. I found the modules well-structured, making each topic easy and understandable. After my finals, I plan to revisit the site and explore all the modules in depth.

In the presentation skills and tools module, I found myself reflecting on my own process for creating presentations. Interestingly, the steps outlined in the module are close to the approach I usually follow, from brainstorming and organizing content to designing slides and rehearsing before the presentation.

  1. Visual assignment: Beautifying world

  1. Visual assignment: collage of the seasons

spring – summer – fall – winter
– I couldn’t find a picture that represents spring so I used one from the internet.

Takeaways from this assignment:

  • Understanding the difference between digital literacies and digital skills
  • I discovered very helpful websites such as “All Abroad Stations” and “ARK”. Well actually all the websites in the Four T-pathways are extremely informative.
