1- Experiment with researching a topic using the tool, and comparing the results to those of Google Scholar or a Library search. Did you find similar sources?
When I searched the pro version of Perplexity, it provided me with real sources that had some valuable information about my topic: What are the basic Islamic beliefs and practices? When I searched on Google Scholar myself, the sources that popped up for me were not the same as the ones on Perplexity (this applies to all AI tools that I used). However, that does not mean the sources I got from Perplexity are not real.
Cite- AI also provided me with real sources that contained useful information.
I am unsure if Scispace gave me real sources because it did not provide me with a link to the sources, but it gave good information about the topic.
ChatGPT gave me good information but did not provide me with articles or research papers it just provided me with authors and their work.
2- Did you find different quality sources? What are the pros and cons of the tool?
Perplexity gave me good-quality sources that were relevant to my topic. What I like about this AI is that it gives real and relevant sources.
Scite- also gave me good-quality sources that were relevant to my topic. I did not like this AI’s answer format because it is only in paragraph format.
I don’t think that Scispace gave me good quality sources because I can’t access any sources. One of this AI’s cons is that it does not give a link that directly accesses the sources.
ChatGPT did not give me access directly to the sources, but it gave me a page of authors and their work. I liked that it was fast and gave good information.
3- Experiment with using the tool to summarize or help you ask questions about an article – how good is the summary? What does it miss or confuse?
Perplexity was not that good in summarizing because it missed lots of important information and its summary was only in small not detailed points.
Scite- did a good job summarizing the article and it did not miss critical information.
Scispace summarized the article in a good and concise way but unfortunately, it missed some important information.
ChatGPT summarized the article in a good way but it missed lots of important information.
4- Experiment with any other tool features (each tool has different strengths) – what would you use?
It depends on what I am going to use the tool for. If I am going to summarize something I am going to use the AI Scite-, but if I am going to use AI to research and get sources I am going to use perplexity.
5- Compare the search and summary function to either ChatGPT or Gemini in terms of quality of sources and ease of use.
ChatGPT was not that good at summarizing the article.
