I went to my first Somatic Healing session. Honestly, I wasn’t super excited about it because I’m not really into mental health stuff. I’ve been forced to go to a bunch of these sessions before, and I never found them helpful. But in this session, something really clicked for me. I learned from a very young age that it’s not okay to cry and that you’re stronger if you don’t, even in tough situations. And in the session, they talked about how our bodies remember things. So, one time, in a really important competition, the Paralympics, I performed terribly. I added 13 seconds to my time after training super hard for four years for it. After the race, I was devastated and super disappointed, but I couldn’t cry. I carried that feeling for a really long time, and until now, I’ve avoided thinking about that memory because I don’t know how to deal with it. My mom thinks if I just let it go and cried about it, maybe I’d feel better now.
