The movie of Oppenheimer story was a real story that illustrated one of the most changes in human history. I watched the movie and I enjoyed it because it helped me feel the characters and to understand the pressure behind each action that happened. I think having this ethical dilemma that encounters many of us nowadays between the pursuit of science and the ethical and humanitarian side of the topic is a serious topic of thinking. This movie helps understand some part of this and to think of Oppenheimer as a mirror for yourself and that you can be in his place and take the things from his perspective. This is what makes the movie exciting and very interesting to watch. At the same time, understanding the political side this is something interesting and how working in an alike environment is like. Of course, the movie is not real life, but it gives a general understanding and a sense of how it is. This is also a good point when it comes to the intersection for science, politics and passion. This is a point I think about and can be an interesting area for me. It also opens the way for passionate people to learn more and search for facts and discoveries.
I liked the fact that you talked about seeing things from the perspective of Oppenheimer because that makes us ponder upon the decisions we would take differently. I think this movie is challenging the idea of one particular story that scientists always receive recognition on the basis of what they discover but forget to think about the implications of their discoveries. This made me think whether Oppenheimer is to be remembered for his achievements as a scientist or for the destruction caused by his work.
I was fascinated by the point you brought up regarding imagining our situation as Oppenheimer’s because it would force us to consider what actions we would have taken differently. The film also provides a challenge to the singular narrative regarding the scientist being praised for his discoveries and the disregard of the impact of his research. It raised the question of whether or not Oppenheimer should be remembered as the scientist whose work resulted in destruction.
