How ‘African’ is Northern Africa?

This article somehow reshaped my view on identities and how we categorize ourselves into the group that we see fit.

“This divide has sparked heated debate among African intellectuals.” DIVIDE and HEATED, those two words I won’t use except if I am reflecting upon an enemy, I would never use them to describe the variations between the 55 nations of Africa.

“North African leaders, therefore, played an equally important role in the formation of the African Union, the continent’s most important geopolitical institution.” This is a proof that we amongst ourselves don’t want to be divided. Maybe the reason why some parts from Africa are so different comes from that the continent it self is extremely huge and also we were colonized many times for long period of time.
