As a North African, I can relate to this article a lot. I’ve always thought of myself as Arab and Muslim, but never really as African (even inside my head). The Tunisian joke mentioned in the reading felt very true to me: we only remember our “Africanness” during the Africa Cup of Nations. It made me realize how much our identity is shaped by language, religion, and culture, which connect us more to the Arab world than to Sub-Saharan Africa.
