I learned a lot of things about different topics like identity, bias, othering, equity, oppression, empathy. The first thing I learned is that our identities are diverse and shaped by both social influences and personal experiences. These might include things like skin color, gender, culture, beliefs, language, and values, all of which have an impact on how we see ourselves and other people around us. I learned about identity more with the ted talk of Lera Boroditsky because she was introducing The concept that our language has a significant impact on how we see and understand the world. Also I learned that sometimes I could be biased about certain things and I judge or stereotype without even being aware of me doing it and this could really harm a lot of people around me.The IAT test made me really realize my hidden biases that I would never have thought I had. Othering is another important thing that we do which means treating or seeing others as something separate from oneself ” What kind of Asian are you?” this video was an example of othering when he asked her what kind of people are your parents also the activity we did on the board which we wrote examples and it made me realize that sometimes when i talk with people that dont think, act, or believe in the same things i do i talk to them like they are something different than me and this made me realize that this is so wrong and i shouldn’t do so. Equity is about giving all the people the same opportunities regardless of any specific thing; everyone should be given the same chances. The privilege walk activity was really important because it showed me how people can be treated or offered less because of their body weight, skin color, physical abilities, or backgrounds.
I have learned that we shouldn’t treat people who have different beliefs, religion, culture, laguage, or skin color in a rude or disrespectful way that would hurt their feelings we should treat everyone with respect and kindness i also learned that if a person is different than me that doesn’t mean that he/she is bad or is less than me because we are all different in a way that makes us who we are. I only have one question to myself which is, am i always going to be open to new ideas and to accept that i’m acting wrong sometimes and will I always be this understanding with myself and the people around me or not? I will use my soliya experience to enhance my communication skills and also i want to learn to participate more and talk to people with different identities and learn from them of course and try also to teach them things. I also want to learn about new topics and learn how other people think. This could really help me in having a different mindset and will teach me a lot of new things that would really help me in my everyday life.
Interacting with others from diverse backgrounds often highlights the value of variety as well as the difficulties that may occur when trying to understand viewpoints that are different from our own. I’ve learned from these exchanges that communicating with others and developing true understanding require being open-minded, paying attention, and asking meaningful questions. Cultural, language, and value differences may sometimes be a barrier, but when handled with respect and interest, they can also be enlightening. I don’t have any questions about being a better global citizen. I know what I should do. My solia experience will enhance all my social skills because it will help me in interacting with diverse cultures and backgrounds and it will help me in being a good listener and to respect people. Also it will help me in sharing my own point of views in a respectful way without hurting people around me.
I think there will be a lot of conflict but i think i wouldn’t talk too much since I’m not really following up about what is happening but it would hurt my feelings if someone is supporting israel and i don’t want to listen to people supporting israel because i won’t stay silent at that time also i’m not going to be disrespectful but i won’t stay quiet. If I’m able to direct the discussion I would say I don’t want to talk about it. I would just tell the person in front of me to read about the problem from different perspectives and to face reality and not to stick to what they want to hear. I will need articles and videos that are real and tell the whole story from the beginning.
