Digital games:

Spent:

First time I played it I got notes on a library PC. When I tried to access it again, the screen was off. So the reflect was not that accurate for the first time.

1st: I got like 800 dollars in my pocket at the end of the month. The reason was that I did spend money only on important things such as my children’s education. However, I did not attend his play. His generational talent in theater is not an important thing to the community. Furthermore, some choices were based on my education. For instance, I am good at Maths so I have explained Math to him (I can make him an International Science Olympiad like his dad too if he wants). It reminded me of the fact that rich people, if they got poor, they can become rich again because they know how to make it. ‘Know’ comes from Knowledge is the only contributing factor in life. It also raises the concerns of the responsibilities that come around being a dad having children and being poor. Here are also my tweets for the first game. I asked for help but no one replied (I was absent in class).

Second time, I remembered some comments that are common in both times. Insurance is a waste of money. Insurance is for people who are afraid to get sick. It all depends on God. Insurance is actually based on the idea that no one is united together in a community. If you are in a community that you are all helping each other. If any of you get an anomaly disease, you can all help each other. Second, I have chosen to make my child apply for a scholarship cause if he is that talented, he would get into. Otherwise, he is just a normal guy. He needs to work harder. I have also noticed that the game wants you to think that you will be in the safe option if you just stay as you are, do not take risks, apply for insurance, and accept your hourly wage. All of those people are making money out of your effort. On day 14, I already had 3 job strikes. The job was not that good anyways. I was about to make it to the end of the month but my mom asked me for money and I can’t ignore it. I learned that the office work I did the first time was way better than the 2nd shift. I guess the problem was in the character they gave me as not a strong person to do so.

BBC syrian refugee:

I really don’t like the game. First of all, why would I only meet smugglers? In both routes, I have found smugglers. Second, why is that smuggler not trustworthy? Third, why would I always search to be in a European country, why just settle in? On both routes, I chose to stay in Turkey or in Egypt but then was forced to go to a European country. Bad game by all means that tries to convince people that it is the Syrian refugees’ fault to be in such a situation. They won’t talk about what the west has done to those countries. I really did not like the game and I am too nervous right now. I am waiting for part two but for Palestinians.

Project Honduras:

The game design was not effective in making users know more about specific issues about hurricanes and floods in Honduras. I was not focused on what was the problem that I sent volunteers to but on how many volunteers do they need. I would suggest making the game design similar to BBC syrian refugee and Spent as you can’t make choices without reading the context. Nevertheless, it was a great initiative to introduce problems in Honduras.

October 1st

The story represents part of the slavery that we live in right now. As an example, I don’t understand why the university officials refused his request to offer only online classes. The second point is why he does not just stay at home that time and when everything is ok, he can return back. Also, it shows that the professors lack the agility to make a career shift by offering online classes himself. I guess his stature as a biology professor would help him crack that area smoothly. Another vivid example was when he was in a meeting and the provost (I don’t remember the person exactly) was not wearing a mask. Why did he do that? Because he has a higher authority? I don’t know but what I know is that the professor is slave minded and needs to be out of that university by any means. I guess the problem might be based on the fact that the professor wants to chase money or fame or both. I don’t know but I felt sorry for her. (Actually, I liked her blog. I might follow her content. Good choice)

September 7th:

I don’t know why but when I was reading it I thought it was a male until I heard ‘her neighbor’. Anyway, I tried to focus on choices that are more practical and necessary. Also, Why would I cry when something is not going well? Antidepressants are the reason. People nowadays if they get anything not normal they just get medicine. We see people make surgical operations to look better in shape, or to lose weight. That is not right. A reason for that is the brainwashing happening right now. I have seen people, even professors, convincing people to go in a certain direction just to get advantage of those people. Depression is not a disease that you take medicine for. If you read research papers you would notice such a thing. In Today’s world, as there is access to everything, you have to research everything as well. People nowadays forget to do their research before they take a certain medicine. Furthermore, doctors are not all innocent in that part as well. Remember Elon Musk’s son when doctors advised him to take certain medicines to avoid depression and blaa blaa blaa. What happened next? He became depressed and a transgender. How can we solve such a thing? Reading Reading Reading. I can’t stress this point enough.

Voter Suppression Trial via New York Times:

The game made me laugh when I first played it. I tried it then with the black salesman and as soon as there was an option to leave, I left. I noticed that the ethnicity of each character was proportional to the real USA proportions. The game highlighted the issue of voting in the US highlighting different reasons why people do not vote. The story needs to be long enough. I would suggest the usage of Machine Learning to make your character more customizable to predict the behavior of the character directly.

Sucrose:

I played it with four other classmates. It was funny the idea that you get points when you answer questions that are difficult to answer. The game also gives you the option to skip some questions if you are not comfortable answering them. We did not finish the game but it was ok. The only disadvantage is that sometimes the words are vague in a way. It would be better to have an example of certain words to be more clear. From the discussions I have made, I learned that you need to talk to learn more about yourself. I really don’t like to talk about myself that much but that game made more ok with it.

A final comparison:

BBC refugee game needs more improvement. They need to add more storylines to add. The game does not reflect the real situation of Syrian refugees. BBC tries to make British people dislike Syrians for no reason.  If they don’t have the time to make such a detailed story, they can see Cait Kirby stories. They are easy to write, does not require that much of open world storylines, and it does send the proposed message. Project Honduras uses the attention to make you play the game but that attention was not effectively used. Voter suppression was too shallow but it achieved the required purpose.

Final Notes:

That website is good, I wrote all my notes with hyperlinks in google docs and he recognized them.

Games I tried to play but were not available for certain reasons:

Virtue Reality:

Only available for mobile phones.

Darfur is dying:

I couldn’t play the game since the support of flash has been removed from web browsers.

Depression Quest:

I tried to play it but Kaspersky says it is a malicious website to visit. After that, I allowed Kaspersky to go to the link but the website was not found.
